Even though Friday is the 13th, this weekend is anything but unlucky. Not only does the Pioneer Courthouse Square holiday tree arrive but we can head to Hillsboro for a free Family Day and learn about a classic Indian dance, veg out with VegFest, learn anti-bullying techniques from super heroes and meet Star Wars characters. Downtown Holiday Tree Arrival
The tree is coming! The tree is coming! Head down to Portland’s Living Room to celebrate the arrival of this year’s enormous 75-ft. Douglas Fir, donated by Stimson Lumber. Fri., Noon-1 p.m., Free, All Ages. Event details.

Celebrate India at Family Day
Students from the Anjali School of Dance will demonstrate a classic dance from India, called Bharatanatyam, in full costume. This 2000 year-old dance style incorporates face, eye and hand movements along with footwork to tell stories of ancient Hindu mythology. The interactive performance will give the audience a chance to try out some of the moves themselves. Additionally, kids’ crafts and activities will be offered by the museum staff and volunteers. Star Wars Day at Child’s Play
Come in costume and take a picture with some very special guests, enjoy Star Wars themed activities and Fancy That treats, and win prizes at the annual Toy Walk. 20% of Child’s Play Toy Store sales will benefit Chapman School. Veggie Lovers Unite at VegFest
If you’re a vegetarian or looking to lessen your animal products consumption in general, the annual VegFest will have plenty of resources for you, with 100 vendors, chef demos, free samples and speakers focusing on subjects including proper nutrition as a vegan athlete and on raising vegan children. Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m., $5-$8; Free for kids 12 & under, All Ages. Event details.

Super Hero Training
Put on those masks and capes and meet three super heroes (2 female, 1 male) that will teach the kids about community, confidence and how to deal with bullies. Costumes encouraged. Sat., 11 a.m.-noon, $18, Ages 10 & Under. Event details.
