Celebrate Modern Families With Cathy and Marcy and Red Yarn 
Multiple GRAMMY Award winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer perform a rare all-ages show with Portland family music star, Red Yarn. “Dancin’ in the Kitchen,” the duo’s 44th album (!), celebrates diverse families, like one-parent and two-parent households, grandparents raising their grandchildren, gay and lesbian parents, adoptive families, extended and blended families, mixed-race families and LGBT children.Sun., 4 p.m.-5 p.m., $8/person; free for babies in arms, All Ages. Quake Up! Family Day
Join museum staff and volunteers for activities related to the earth’s movements. Local Storyteller Emmy blue will tell tales of the Enchanted Forest. Guests will make tsunami bottles and pet rocks to take home. Family Day activities will take place in conjunction with “Quake Up!,” an all-ages earthquake preparedness fair. Support the Schools With Art in the Burbs
Bring friends and family to browse and shop the gallery of artwork by over 75 local NW artists. The show features unique artwork, a student art gallery, local food, musical performances and a chance to support the arts in our schools. Oct. 9-11, Free, All Ages. Event details.

Enjoy the Harvest at the Apple Tasting Festival
Portland Nursery is celebrating their 28th annual Apple Tasting Festival and will be serving up bite-sized nibbles of more than 50 apple varieties to taste. After you choose your favorites, go fill up bags with dozens of heirloom apples and pears for sale. Also watch apples as they are pressed into cider, then sample the fresh cider, sample treats from local vendors, paint a pumpkin in the kids tent and dance to live music on Saturdays and Sundays. Family Dance: You Light Up My Life Glow Party
Cut the rug with your little ones at this magical party for mini people with lots of special features designed with your child in mind, like an all day dance party, interactive glowing art installations, an infant sensory play zone, hula hoop decorating, hula hoop and dance performances, group games, a photo booth, food carts and sing-alongs. Say, “Cheese, Please!”
What’s the best way to learn about cheese? To eat it! Lots of it! Little ones will get cheesy with cooking teacher and curd nerd, Cheyenne Terbrueggen, from Elephants Delicatessen, learning about and tasting different kinds of cheese (even stinky cheese, ewww!) and the animals that make it.
