Lisa Komer: Fancy That

Share with us a little about your family.

Married to my high school sweetheart, David, and have two kiddos, Jack (13) and Samantha (10)

What neighborhood/suburb do you live in?

We live in the Bethany area.

Please give a description of your job/business … as you would describe it to a friend.

Fancy That is a celebration shoppe filled with everything you need to throw a fabulous event or give a unique gift.

How long have you had this position, and what did you do previously?

I have owned my shop for almost 10 years. Previously, I was a stay-at-home mama and, before that, I worked at Intel in marketing communications and purchasing.

Please describe one personal accomplishment that you are proud of.

Juggling opening the shop and being with my kiddos! It is very important to me that I am there to hug my kids when they come home from school. Sometimes it makes life a little chaotic to run back and forth between the shop and home, and work crazy late night hours, but it is so worth it to me.

Please describe one professional accomplishment that you are proud of.

Hands down, opening the pop-up shop. I was an online retailer and really wanted a storefront but was a bit intimidated to open up my own shop. It was so outside of my comfort zone to approach Bliss Bake Shop and pitch the idea of a pop-up shop. If I hadn’t taken that risk, I know that our Orenco Station shop would never have happened.

What is your favorite thing(s) to do with your kid(s)?

Playing board games, running on the beach, snuggling on the couch and watching a movie, and watching their sporting events.

Any tips on work/life balance. (In other words, how do you DO it?)

Be kind to yourself. It is okay to not get it all done. Know your limits and when you need to take a break and ask for help. It is hard juggling work and family time. Protect your family time and your ‘me’ time - it will only help your business life.
