If there’s one takeaway to being a parent of growing kids it’s that the sweet duds you buy this month will likely be too small for those growing arms and legs in a few months time (or less). Instead of neatly packing up those clothes in labeled boxes with the hope that you can pass them on to a fellow mama, we think you should go the consignment route, which will not only make space in your kiddo’s closet, but provide you with some extra cash as well. Just in time for the spring cleaning lurking around the corner, we’re welcoming the newest kids consignment shop to hit Portland: Too Cute.
What You’ll Find There
Too Cute is not your ordinary consignment shop. Opening their doors at the end of January 2013, the friendly folks at Too Cute offer a boutique experience with consignment prices. The clean and well organized store features everything from kids clothes to toys to gear and more. They aim to carry high quality, gently used items and sample brands include Gap, Gymboree, Abercrombie, Juicy Couture, Hanna Anderson, Naartje, Janie and Jack, Justice, Old Navy, and more.
While you’ll find all your fave brands here, what we love is that Too Cute supports local artisans by selling and showcasing their new, handmade items. Currently, you’ll be able to find artisan items like birthday onesies, tutus, hair bands/accessories, knitted swing sweaters and hats. One of their artisans is an 11-year-old girl who makes hair bows and donates all the profits to charity (can you say impressed?).
Why It’s Worth the Drive
Two words: Play Space. While you shop, your kids can play in the designated kids play area, which boasts floor to ceiling windows. We love that Too Cute understands that moms will visit the store with their kids in-tow so they try and make the consignment and shopping experience as easy and carefree as possible for the busy mama. In addition to the play space, the store also features a clean bathroom and fitting rooms.
How It Works
Bring your gently used, high quality items into the store anytime during their normal business hours. If the store is super busy that day they may ask you to leave your items so we suggest calling ahead of time. You’re paid 40% of the selling price of the item and if your goods aren’t sold after 60 days you can either pick up your unsold goods or have Too Cute donate them to charity on your behalf. Yes, it’s that simple.
