Blog Roll for Foodie Fams

Happy Lemon Risotto, from a Little Yumminess

The San Francisco Bay Area is known as both a foodie capital and as the center of the world wide web, so it’s natural that the Bay Area would be home to thousands of blogs about food.  This includes several family-friendly food blogs that cover everything from organic recipes for a busy family to introducing solids to an infant.  Food blogs have become the busy parent’s best friend—an easy source for recipes, advice, entertainment, and even commiseration.  We’ve picked a few of our favorite blogs of late and hope you find some inspiration for the kitchen this week!

Local cookbook author Amanda Haas launched her blog, One Family One Meal, to help families “create easy, organic, family friendly meals on a budget,” and it is chock-full of kid-approved recipes.  Haas has done all the organization for you, posting a weekly blog entry with a week’s worth of seasonal recipes and easy-to-print shopping and pantry list.  It can’t get any easier!

Newbie parents will breath a sigh of relief when they log onto Feeding My Little Chick, a blog by local natural foods chef Karyn Duggan, who shares all the basics (but in great detail) about introducing solids to your little one. She breaks down a guide and list of recipes by age—4-6 months, 6-9 months, and 9-12 months.  Feeding My Little Chick takes the mystery out of feeding supplies, how much to feed, and even food allergies.

A Little Yumminess is the newest blog on the block (launched in February), written by local moms Stacie and Simran, who write about eating, cooking, and taking their kids out to eat throughout San Francisco.  Check out the “Food ‘Ventures” tab for hip dining suggestions where the kids are welcomed or the “Recipes” tab for unexpected suggestions such as pink grapefruit granita and Japanese pork tonkatsu.

Last but definitely not least is City Mama, started by veteran blogger and social media expert Stefania Pomponi Butler, who describes herself as “a radical, political, local-food-sourcing, mostly organic, cooking-from-scratch, full-time working parent.”  Stefania’s passion for food and family shows, with topics ranging from a call for the best crockpot recipes out there to meal planning by way of local grocers such as Rainbow Grocery and Trader Joe’s.
