Keep in mind that many of the museums on this list are staffed by volunteers so it’s always a good idea to call ahead to confirm opening hours. Flip through the gallery to begin your adventure.

Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum, South Bay

Part of Almaden Quicksilver Park, the museum holds an array of memorabilia and exhibits relating to the history of Mercury mining in the Bay Area. There’s mine dioramas, artifacts from diverse miners' families including Cornish and Chinese, and a fully furnished antique parlor, library, and drawing-room. The park itself features mine shafts and lots of hiking, so it's well worth exploring.

Cost: Free
Ages: All Ages.
