It’s a long weekend, kiddos. We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday and you can honor Mr. King by celebrating your community by supporting the organizations that you hold most dear. Whether it’s attending your favorite museum or volunteering to help keep your neighborhood clean, there are endless ways to demonstrate the values of Mr. King.

San Francisco

MLK Day of Revelations at the de Young
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the NorcalMLK Foundation and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are presenting the Day of Revelations. The event includes free admission to the exhibition Revelations: Art from the African American South and the permanent collections as well as related events, including a special gospel music concert, as well as art making, a film, lectures and more. Help Clean Ocean Beach Today

Get with the Birds and the Trees
Winter is for the birds (and the trees) at the UC Botanical Garden. During this program kids and their folks can visit a botanical art exhibit that celebrates trees then take a walk to explore trees in the garden that are also nesting sites. Get Pooped at an Owl Pellet Dissection
Come and excavate a pellet from an owl’s gullet! You never know what you will find, but the hope is to extract small bones. All the supplies will be provided just bring your enthusiasm. Sun. Event details.

MLK Day Unity Park Grand Opening
It may be a day off but that also means it’s a day to pitch in. Participate in Richmond by joining in a short 8 a.m. unity walk from the Richmond Bart Station at 16th and 21st streets to Unity Park. From 9 a.m. to noon, pull on some gloves and get to work. Services projects are designated from 4th Street on the Greenway to Harbor Way and 16th Street to 21st on the Greenway. At noon, a special ribbon cutting ceremony will commemorate the opening of Unity Park, followed by a free hot meal for participants. Mon. Event details.
