History for Half-Pints
The California Historical Society hosts a family friendly day of fun! Explore the bilingual exhibit Juana Briones y su California: Pionera, Fundadora, Curandera, which is about one of California’s unsung pioneer heroes. Learn about Juana’s mothers life on the Anza Trail, and enjoy creative crafts, stories, and demos, including the Mexican Museums table where you can make a Mother’s Day card. Walt Disney Family Museum’s Open Studio
Bring your would-be Walts down to Little Open Studio at the Walt Disney Family Museum, where they can enjoy a story followed by an art project. Kids can explore the wonders of color and water with stamps, brushes, and even fingers and toes. Hayao Miyazaki Film Festival
Throughout the month of May, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts presents a wide array of films from Hayao Miyazaki (Ponyo, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle)  and the celebrated animation team at Studio Ghibli. Family Friday Night at OMCA
The Oakland Museum of California hosts Friday Nights, including Off the Grid food trucks, DJ music, and a 49′er drop-in activity, The Game of Gold. Half price admission for grown-ups and free admission for kids under 18 means the whole fam-damily can go and enjoy all the museum has to offer. Bonus! Park Street Spring Festival
Head for the historic Park Street District in Alameda for mimosas, live music, a kid zone that includes a climbing wall and WaterBallerz, which means kids get a chance to “walk” on water. Plus tons of super cool wares like jewelry, clothing, ceramics, and more. Sunday entertainment includes bluegrass band Savannah Blue, and Aja Vu, a Steely Dan tribute band. Kid Made Mother’s Day Brunch
Kids ages 4-12 and The Culinary Dudes will be working hard prepping, creating, and serving mom and family brunch on this special day.
