Ever taken the kids on an hiking adventure of the natural world designed just for them?  No?  Then meet Sharon Barnett, known affectionately as ‘Sharon Heron’ by the many children she works with as a Certified Interpretive Guide and science teacher at the highly-regarded Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera.

Barnett’s known for the fab field trips she leads with kids from all over Marin,  (through the public libraries, the Audubon, and the Marin Art and Garden Center) but she’s also for hire for private outings as well. She’ll customize a fun, hands-on nature tour for your family depending on your particular interests.  Are your little ones curious about the sea and the critters that live there?  They’ll get the answers to all their questions on a tidepooling tour, as they search for starfish, crabs, and colorful sea anemones, and learn about who used to live in the shells they’ll collect.  Or opt for a forest discovery tour, looking for animal tracks, listening for woodpeckers, playing nature games, and going on mini scavenger hunts.

Sharon takes her spotting scope along on each adventure, so that if she spies a pair of black-tailed deer, a family of California quail, or a jackrabbit, the whole family can see it close-up. Find out more about Sharon and her tours at Marin Nature Adventures. You’ll be in for a treat whatever shows up—nature is so full of wonderful surprises!
