Community Supported Agriculture Offers More Than Fruit and Veggies in Bay Area
Who doesn’t love getting a weekly box of seasonal fruit and vegetables from their favorite local farm? You already know about CSA “farm boxes” filled with fresh produce, but did you know you can get local goat meat, ground beef, poultry, farm-fresh eggs, olive oil, raw milk cheese, and even kombucha by joining a non-traditional CSA?
You can support more local farmers and producers while expanding your culinary spectrum by joining a meat or poultry CSA, a CSK (community-supported kitchen), and many other interesting collectives in the Bay Area. Here’s a list of some local CSAs that are out of the traditional CSA box:
Soul Food Farm
Vacaville: Pastured poultry and eggs, giblets, livers, chicken leg confit, olive oil, vinegar, and lavender.
Marin Sun Farms
Point Reyes Station: Antibiotic and hormone-free, grass-fed, free-range, beef, veal, lamb, mutton, pork, goat; pasture-raised chickens (broilers, hens and roosters) and eggs.
Clark Summit Farm
Tomales: Pastured pigs, grass-fed cattle, free-range chicken (broilers and laying hens), certified organic eggs, and seasonal turkey.
Bodega: Grass-fed, pastured, antibiotic and hormone-free beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and seasonal heritage turkey.
Three Stone Hearth
Berkeley: Soups, stews, broths, cultured vegetables, cultured drinks, meat patties, cereals, crackers, prepared dishes, dairy products, sweeteners, grains, fats, and more.
Eating with the Seasons
San Juan Bautista: Organic local produce, eggs, fair trade coffee, tea, nuts, olive oil, fruit juice, conserves, dried herbs, grass-fed beef, honey, and granola.
Real Food Bay Area
San Jose: Raw cow milk and cream, raw goat milk products, pastured eggs, organic raw cow cheese, ghee products, beet kvass, sauerkraut, gluten-free bread and cookies, raw honey and honey products.
