Spice Up Your Kids’ Lives
Taco trucks have been an institution in the Bay Area for some time now, but a samosa truck? Next time you’re in Burlingame, check out Curry Up Now, a new Indian street food truck that’s generating some hungry lines in the South Bay. It’s the perfect pit stop for lunch after a day of downtown shopping on Burlingame Avenue and also just a few blocks from the CalTrain for you city dwellers (A field trip on the train? Hooray!).
We love Curry Up Now’s homage to the food truck’s Mexican roots — Tandoori Chicken Tacos with fiery Desi salsa (served on freshly made LaPalma corn tortillas) or the Samosa and Chana Burrito, a big burrito stuffed with chickpeas, samosas, rice, and chutney. If fusion is not your thing, not to worry. They are die-hard traditionalists when it comes to original Indian street food, down to the original region. Try the Paneer Kathi Roll Kolkutta-style–parantha wheat bread fried with an egg, paneer cheese and topped with pickled onions and chutney or the Hyderabadi biryani, a famous rice dish perfected after many trials and a phone call to a biryani master in Hyderabad, India!
Take your kids on a culinary tour this weekend to India (with a layover in Mexico) and visit Curry Up Now. If you have the patience to wait, Curry Up Now has plans to expand into San Francisco in the new year. Check them out on Facebook or Twitter and let them know where you want them to drive by.
