This year celebrate Earth day by doing! Cleaning up the beautiful parks and beaches of our beloved Bay Area is a great way to get your hands dirty, and our environment clean. Here a few suggestions for you and your family to get in the spirit of Earth Day.

San Francisco
Baker Beach Clean Up
Patagonia SF and The Surfrider Foundation are hosting a beach cleanup in Baker Beach. There will also be a post-clean up BBQ, awesome raffles and giveaways for repeating volunteers. 5 Gyres will also join to educate us about micro-plastic pollution.
When: Monday, April 11th
Time: 10 am–noon
Location: Baker Beach, SF
Good to know: Sustainable Surf will provide a Styrofoam drop off, so bring it on!

Ocean Beach Clean Up
Join Surfrider SF for their annual Earth Day Beach cleanup at Ocean Beach. Gloves and buckets will be provided but they encourage participants to bring their own. Come down and help beautify the beach!
When: Saturday April 23
Time: 10 a.m.–noon
Location: Ocean Beach Stairwell 17, Noriega, & Sloat Streets

East Bay
Shoreline Clean Up at Emeryville
Join the Emeryville Community Services Department and help give back to the community by participating in Earth Day Action. Meet in the Chevys’ Parking lot for a brief training by the Fire Department, and then head down to the beach to clean up the Shoreline. Refreshments will be available for volunteers.
When: Saturday April 23
Time: 9 a.m.–noon
Location: Shorebird Park, Emeryville
Good to know: Bring reusable collection bags or buckets, garden gloves and digging claws. Supplies will be provided for those who cannot bring their own.

Oakland Earth Day Volunteer Day
Earth Day is Oakland’s largest annual volunteer cleanup and beautification event. Volunteers will be working at approximately 100 sites across the city. Join us to clean and green Oakland’s parks, creeks and streets.
When: Saturday April 23
Time: 9 a.m.–noon
Location: Choose from over 100 locations
Good to know: You can also add your own location, and if you have a group larger than 10 sign up is recommended.

South Bay
Beach Cleanup and Earth Day Festival
Earth Day of Action starts with volunteering actions happening along the beautiful coastline from Mussel Rock (Daly City) to Mavericks (Half Moon Bay). Eco-friendly projects include trash pick up on beaches, parks and streets as well as planting, habitat restoration, gardening and more.
When: Saturday April 23
Time: Clean up and restoration from 9 a.m.–11 a.m. and Festival from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

Peninsula
Coastal Wildflower Day and Earth Day Festival This fun filled all-day event features games and activities for the whole family, native plants for your garden, nature walks, volunteer beach cleanup and more.
When: Saturday April 16
Time: from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Location: Half Moon Bay State Beach, Francis Parking Lot
Good to know: Create your own art for Coastal Wildflower Day by entering the festival’s
coloring contest. There’s kids and adult prices!

Marin
Mount Tam Earth Day
One Tam is partnering with Friends of Mt. Tam to host a special event centered at the beautiful location of the Mountain Theater on Mt. Tam. In the morning, they will be leading projects to protect sensitive natural habitat, improve the trail systems, and preserve the historic Mountain Theater in preparation for the upcoming Mountain Play.
When: Saturday April 23
Time: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Location: Mount Tamalpais
Good to know: Volunteers are invited to join for lunch, and then for an afternoon wildflower hike, evening sunset hike, and night time Astronomy Program.
