Why wait ‘til spring break or summer vacation to unwind? The weekends are always calling, and they’re perfect opportunities to take the minis on a mini-vacation. Take advantage of the Bay Area’s great hotels with special amenities for families. We know, we know, you’re sick of the term “staycation.” We are too, so we won’t use it (whoops), but it’s such a brilliant idea—here are some options that the whole gang will appreciate.

East Bay

The Claremont Hotel, Club & Spa
As a guest at this elegant, kid-friendly classic Berkeley getaway, you can soak in some much-needed relaxation time at the tricked-out Spa, with views of the San Francisco Bay, while your kids ages six weeks to ten years receive complimentary care. It’s all part of the Claremont’s Kids’ Club, which offers two to three hours of free childcare each night of your visit. The little ones will be too happy snacking, playing games, and enjoying movie night to miss you, and you and the hubbie (or wifey) can have some playtime of your own soaking in a massage or busting out some cardio moves at the Claremont Club.

Marin

Cavallo Point
Kids are welcome here, and they know it! The historic and contemporary lodgings feel like a home away from home, complete with organic linens on the bed, cozy sitting rooms, private entrances, gas fireplaces, and picture-window views of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you’ve got a family dog who’s also “one of the kids,” this family-friendly lodge is pooch-friendly, too. You’re steps away from the Bay Area Discovery Museum and 75,000 acres of national parkland—think kite-flying, picnics, and walks on the beach. For outdoorsy fams, Cavallo Point is the place to be.

San Francisco

Hotel Union Square
You know a place is kid-friendly when they offer a kids’ suite and special kids-only check-in. That’s the case with Hotel Union Square (pictured above), which you can call home base while enjoying all the excitement of the city. The Ring in the Kids’ Suite features a king-size bed for mom and dad, along with a kids’ trundle bed that sleeps two littles, who’ll love the room’s colorful décor. More importantly, it’s stocked with fun, educational toys, like a Nintendo Wii, computer with history games, miniature writing desk, and giant grease board. The hotel will also throw in a freebie to get you out of the room and enjoying the town – two cable car passes.

Peninsula

Rosewood Sand Hill
Even more than they appreciate the award-winning restaurant on site, parents love the Rosewood’s Rose Buds for Children Program. It’s a way to make families feel welcome, even those with the youngest of members. Leave the foldable play yard at home, the Rosewood’s got you covered with full-sized cribs, changing tables, baby-proofed rooms, even baby monitors and in-room bottle warmers. Older kids choose from their own menus and play Eloise at the Plaza in their own child-sized bathrobes and slippers, not to mention spa services. But it gets better – there’s babysitting, too!
