From Alcatraz to 51st and Telegraph to Broadway, Rockridge is a nice, roomy pocket of Oakland with a little something for everyone. Visit Child’s Play where resale items make saving money, well, child’s play. Then take your saved dollars for a splurge at Rockridge Kids, where your kids are sure to find something that they absolutely “have to have.” Check out Glitter and Razz Productions for theatre classes and workshops that make your little feel like a star. Come in costume for their Halloween concert and partake of the candies and activities. Worked up an appetite yet? It’s got to be either Barney’s (two words: Oreo shake) or that long-standing Bay Area fave for deep-dish pizza, Zachary’s. And for dessert, consider a cookie (just one?) from La Farine or a cone from Dreyer’s (old school) or Tara’s (new school). Run out the “hypers” in the Rockridge/Temescal Greenbelt, bookended by two great playgrounds. When everyone’s feeling nice and quiet again, browse through neighborhood fixture, Pendragon for new-to-you reads for the littles and yourself, or, if they’re stroller-napping, dip into a fun grown-up shop like Viva Diva, Atomic Garden, or, if you’re looking to drop a big holiday hint, Pave (they’ll often offer to polish your jewelry while you browse).)
Be sure to check the Rockridge website for seasonal and weekly updated events.
