Whenever we see a contemporary take on Christmas or a modern spin on holiday merriment, well. We’re enchanted. We like the minimalist trees and gewgaws and such. But, honest? We tend to return to the classic ways a lot of people mark late November and early December.

What do we mean by the rather vague “classic ways”?
1. Gingerbread villages.
2. Twinkly lights.
3. Grand, applause-laden tree lightings.
4. Carolers.
5. Snowmen.

Oh, we should have said “in no particular order” there, because we do want and expect all of them during the yuletide season. And if the whole caboodle happens to boast a fir-pretty mountain setting? Say not too far from Lake Tahoe, which always looks as if it should be on the front of a holiday card, regardless of the time of year? Happiness.

The Resort at Squaw Creek has several of those goodies going, plus a few mountain-nice happenings, during its “Magical Memories” Holiday Celebration.

Find out what festive happenings are taking place at Squaw Creek over at NBC’s Worth the Drive.

Each week NBC Bay Area will provide Red Tricycle readers with the inside scoop on a special destination that’s always “Worth the Drive.” NBC Bay Area uncovers and connects their users to all that the city has to offer so they can be true city insiders. They go beyond the obvious and provide access to untold stories and the stories behind the stories.
