There are a lot of things to love about Soccer Tots. Kids thrive in the fun, noncompetitive environment and soccer-based fun and games. There are locations all over the Bay Area. The Soccer Tots coaches and staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoy working with kids. With all that and counting, we can understand why Soccer Tots was your Totally Awesome pick for best kids sports class around. Soccer Tots’ own Brian Phelps and Trishan Arul recently took the time to chat with us about what inspired their business, what it’s like working with kids, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome”. What do your customers value most about your business?

Brian Phelps & Trishan Arul: We pride ourselves on being awesome and SF Tots is honored that we won this award! Our parents value how much we care about the kids in our program. We are not just coaches, but role models helping shape their child’s life. Lessons learned at this age will stay with them for a lifetime.

RT: What inspired you to start your business?

BP & TA: I have fond memories of playing soccer when I was a child and loved kids. (This was before I had my own toddler!) Combining the two seemed to be a great opportunity to “do what you love”. It has been really rewarding working with children and seeing them develop.

RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?

BP & TA: Make sure you really love what you’re doing. It’s not a 9 to 5 job so you need to have that passion to make it through the long days.

RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?

BP & TA: The best thing to balance entrepreneurship with parenthood is to have your child involved in your business! Now that my son is old enough, he attends SF Tots classes with me and I get to see the business in a whole new light.

RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?

BP& RA: We have so many proud moments working with children. Watching their faces light up when they score a goal or make a basket; getting a shy child to become excited for sports; the funny, literal and amazing things they say; watching them become friends with other kids in our program; and new moments every class.

RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?

BP & RA: Yes! Mention “Red Tricycle – Totally Awesome” in the comments section of registration and get $10 off any class. Register for a class at www.sftots.com/registration
