Skip the scoop and rock the roll instead! Locals are lining up around the block to try this hand-made Thai treat at the new Icicles Cream Roll in Willow Glen. Cream, milk, eggs and sugar—that’s all you’ll get at Icicles where top-notch ingredients are the only way to roll. To top it off, every order comes with unlimited toppings! Read on to learn why you need to plan your next Icicles run ASAP.
Artisan handcrafted ice cream. This is literally what you get at Icicles as your cream roll is made right in front of you, no scooping from a bucket. With clever names like Cereal Killer, Gotcha Matcha and Bravocado, you may have a tough time deciding which treat to order.
The good news is that everything at Icicles comes with only the best ingredients. Order an Oreo Blast and you’ll get the small-batch ice cream base with real Oreos chopped up inside. Same goes with Strawberry Fantasy—ice cream base, strawberries and graham crackers—that’s it! They even offer dairy-free options like strawberry lemonade and mango. Swing by to see what rotating seasonal flavors they are offering.
A Dessert and a Show
After you place your order, you can enjoy the free WiFi while you wait for your name to be called. Then you step up to the window where the Icicles employee will make your cream roll just the way you want it. The liquid is poured on to the ice pans where the employee will mix the liquid and chop up the other ingredients as the liquid starts to freeze. Then the frozen mix is spread into a very thin layer and rolled. The whole experience is pretty cool to see – it keeps the kids entertained for sure!
To Top or Not to Top
Toppings are included in the $6.50 price and you can go totally wild if you’d like. Try some mochi, popping boba and a drizzle of condensed milk on top of your Mai Thai. Or if you need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, the Wake Me Up topped with caramel cups, a Nutella drizzle and a roasted marshmallow on a pretzel stick is the way to go. Most of the toppings are added by the Icicles employee but they do have a small topping bar with cereals and crushed cookies if you didn’t get enough on the first pass.
Icicles is currently open in San Jose with plans to open soon in San Mateo, Newark, Cupertino and Pleasanton. The line can be long so plan accordingly. On cold days you can order a hot chocolate from the line by iMessaging your name and order to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will bring it out to you! There’s a big parking lot behind the shop (just make sure not to park in the CVS lot) and street parking as well.
