This quaint San Francisco chain of French restaurants has expanded until they now occupy a baker’s dozen of locations in and around the city. While a trip to their mother bakery, La Boulangerie, in the lower Pac Heights neighborhood is definitely a treat, the experience there has been dutifully recreated at the little La Boulanges dotting the Bay Area. Founded by acclaimed pastry chef, Pascal Rigo, the atmosphere in each café is meant to invoke the spirit of cafés in Paris. While they are adorable, we would vote that the spirit of Paris is really residing in the delicious pastries for sale inside. Or maybe that’s just the spirit of Butter? Mmmm. Try their delicious open-faced sandwiches if you’re having a meal, or an almond croissant if you’re just snacking (regulars swear by them.) Kids will love the colorful macarons, (and you will too.) When the weather’s chilly, stop in for hot chocolates that come in cups so large they’re almost bowls.
