This is a big moment for LEGO fans, as the final bricks have been laid and the doors are finally open at the SF’s new (and only) LEGO store. The 1,660-square-foot builder’s wonderland is located at Westfield Center right downtown, and boasts so much more than just bricks for sale. Any LEGO lover will want to check it out, and we have all the details right here.
A First for San Francisco
While there are currently three other Bay area LEGO Stores (Pleasanton, San Mateo, and Santa Clara), SF has, up until now, been LEGO-less. So when the brand new LEGO Store finally opened its doors in downtown SF, right inside Westfield Mall, brick-heads understandably went bananas. But if you missed the events of the opening weekend, keep calm and build on—there are special events, deals and meet-ups almost weekly at this new store, which is more a clubhouse for devotees than just your typical retail store.
ALL of the Bricks
First and foremost, this is where you can come to get almost any LEGO imaginable, from the brand new Disney Castle set (complete with a Tinker Bell Minifigure) to that last missing brick to complete your masterpiece. The Pick a Brick wall lines the back of the store, and it’s like candy store for LEGO overs, with bins filled with bricks of every size and color. Grab a bucket from the bar across from the wall, and pick bricks galore. The rest of the store is lined, floor-to-ceiling, with hundreds of LEGO building sets. Clear, brick-like display boxes show finished models in their full glory. Rotating displays let you interact with the new sets and get in a little building time while you shop.
Come to Play, Not Just to Shop
The new San Francisco store is offering more than just an opportunity to blow your allowance. They host nearly a dozen events every month, from a monthly group model build to special Duplo days for the littles to LEGO Club meetings. Just this month you’re invited to come in for Minifigure Swap Mondays (Sept 5, 12, 19 and 26) where you can bring in your favorite Minifigure and swap with other super fans; Duplo Building Time, when you can stop in anytime before noon from September 12-16 for some serious Duplo inspiration (and a free gift); and of course, Lego Club meetings, where for a $10 registration fee you can meet up with other Lego lovers, learn how to build the monthly model and more (reserve your spot in advance online, as meetings fill up quickly). October steps up the fun with two family game nights (Oct. 14 and 28) where families can face off over board games like Who Am I? and Pirates Chess. See the full schedule and register for events right here.
