If you’re a class commitment-phobe (or have a kiddo who changes his or her mind every day), consider one of these schools that offer a free trial session, so you can sample the fruit before signing on the dotted line. Click through the gallery to take a peek.
If the sing-along style of music lessons isn’t your cup of tea, Jon’s School of Music might be what you’re looking for. At his studios in San Francisco (various locations) and Berkeley, Jon supervises small groups of kids in an ultra-hands-on jam session. (Parents must be present.) Kids rotate through a variety of instruments, so that at each class, they might get to try out a drum set, cello, trumpet, and guitar. Jon encourages creativity and free expression while also teaching the fundamentals of music theory. Email or call to set up a no-strings-attached trial class (which may or may not be free if you join, depending on how far along the session is).
