Take Me (and the Kids) Out to the Ballgame (and Dinner)
This Friday the San Francisco Giants kick off the season with a home game and the opening of two new restaurants by acclaimed chef and James Beard Award winner Traci Des Jardins. Known more for fine dining at Jardinière (in Hayes Valley) and Manzanita (at the newly opened Ritz-Carlton Highlands in Lake Tahoe), Des Jardins is forging into casual dining territory with Public House, an upscale sports pub with delectable bar food to match and the second location of Mijita, her successful California-inspired taqueria (the first location is in the Ferry Building).
Public House and Mijita are connected to each other and sit on the corner of AT&T Park at King & Third Streets. This set-up makes it easy to check out the menus of both restaurants before deciding where to eat, even with a stroller in tow! The boisterous setting, generous spacing between tables, and sleek Koala designer high chairs make visits easy for families of all ages and sizes. If feeling adventurous, the adults get to have some fun too with an amazing selection of craft brews at Public House—24 on tap and 24 in bottle, and an impressive tequila bar with over 40 bottles at Mijita.
And did we mention the food? Mijita’s refried bean and cheese burrito for kids is a healthy steal at just $2, while the split pea soup and pork sliders at Public House is perfect for two kids to share. True to form, Des Jardins uses locally sourced, organic, and seasonal ingredients whenever possible at both places. Both spots are open daily so you can visit while the Giants are at home or away.
