Campbell is home to this new kid on the frozen yogurt block: PennyLane Yogurt and Candy Shop. Whimsical artwork combined with an industrial loft feel and awesome music (DJ-ed by you!) makes this a place where all the cool kids will want to hang out after school. We checked out the eats and this is why you should too!
Handmade and Homemade
The frozen yogurt itself is the first thing that sets PennyLane apart from all of its competitors. Every flavor is handmade in the store. The banana gelato starts with real bananas blended up and added to a gelato base—there are no artificial flavors used here. The Dole Whip flavor (made popular by that mouse in Anaheim) has real pineapples in it and you can taste the difference.
And it’s not just frozen yogurt that’s available—you have sixteen flavors to choose from and these can be frozen yogurt, gelato, custard, dairy-free Italian ice and even vegan sorbet. Literally an option for every palate and diet. Want a sample? Ask one of the friendly employees and they will hook you up.
Cones and waffle tacos (a great choice on Taco Tuesday, when all tacos are 10% off) are made in the store as well.
Local is the Name of the Game
PennyLane’s owner is a member of the Campbell community and it is important to her that local products be featured whenever possible. Cheesecake and pound cake toppings are made by a local baker.
The store is one-of-a-kind, not part of a franchise operation, allowing more flexibility for the store owner to make products she is proud of. Organic ingredients are used whenever available. All dairy comes from humanely-raised, grass-fed cattle.
Unique as You Can Get
PennyLane strives to make your frozen treat-eating experience unique. Come into the store, queue up the Rockbot app and you can listen to whatever music you want, all over the store’s speakers. The store’s artwork is all designed by the owner herself—a fine arts background put to good use.
Flavors are not just your average strawberry and vanilla. Depending on the day you can find Nutella, bourbon vanilla, hibiscus strawberry, lemongrass and Mexican hot chocolate (with a spicy kick!). Top some banana gelato with Fruit Loops and call it breakfast. Cake batter ice cream (with real chunks of cake in it) goes great with the dazzling twinkle sprinkles – full of colorful stars, beads, bars and even rock candy. Kids will flip over the store’s spoons that change color when you dip them in your cold dessert.
Not in the mood for something frozen? The store has tons of candy options available, dozens of cereals, gummy Army guys, chocolate bacon toffee and any fruit that you could want.
Fido might not be allowed in the store, but he can cool off with a YoPup frozen treat, made especially for our four-legged friends.
PennyLane Yogurt and Candy Shop is located at the corner of Hamilton and San Tomas Expressway in Campbell.` There’s no outdoor seating directly in front of the store but ask them to point you to the tables and grassy area out back that’s shared by the complex.
