We love the cozy, hip and comfortable vibe of Phoenix Books, the intimate Noe Valley bookshop that carries a well-organized and reasonably-priced collection of new and used books.  There are always plenty of dog-eared “gems” to be found on their shelves, as well as a small section of new books if you’re looking for something up-to-the-minute.  Need some guidance on your book selection?  The knowledgeable and friendly staff loves to discuss books and will happily point you in the direction of great new authors and books. The sister-store to Dog-Eared Books and Red Hill Books, Phoenix is a the most kid-focused of the bunch, sporting a fairly large kids’ section for an independent book store.  The children’s area has a table with toys to keep toddlers occupied while you browse half-price best-sellers or pick up your special order (staff are happy to order any book they don’t have in stock.) They also host a kiddie story time on Wednesdays at 11am, so come join Alison, manager of Phoenix Books and an award winning children’s musician (formerly of the Sippy Cups,) for some fun that also includes songs, games and dancing for the little ones. Come early for a good spot though, because seats fill up quickly! Good times!
