Mmmm. If this is what 100% sustainable tastes like, then vive la green revolution! Roam Artisan Burgers brags that they make their amazing one-of-a-kind burgers using only high-quality grass-fed beef, free-range turkey, all-natural bison, or organic veggies. Their fries are cooked in rice bran oil, their shakes (delicious!) are made with organic ice cream, and their house-made sodas are sweetened with low-glycemic agave nectar. When a commitment to natural sustainable ingredients is the highlight of your menu, somehow we can’t help expecting that taste will be sacrificed to scruples—but not so! Roam has some of the best burgers in the city, (and possibly the world.) Their Union Street storefront has a ranch house vibe, with plenty of seating at their dark wood bar. Staff and friendly and helpful, and prices are fairly reasonable for a designer burger joint as well. We recommend mom and dad give the French and Fries burger or the Pacific Blue Burger a try, with a side of maple-glazed sweet potato fries and a glass of their ginger-lime soda. Kids can chose between the kid’s burger combo and the grilled cheese combo, with kid-sized house-made drinks. For dessert everyone should try one of their shakes, preferably with the bruléed marshmallow topper. We like the strawberry and salted caramel, but don’t take out word for it; go try your own! We can’t think of a better reason never to darken the door of a Burger King again.
