Get Into the Grove

Grove Cafe, a longtime staple of the stroller set in the Marina and Lower Pacific Heights, opened a third location in SoMA last week. Grove Café Yerba Buena is centrally located at Mission and Third Streets and just half a block from five museums —The Cartoon Art Museum, SFMoMA, Museum of the African Diaspora, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.  The Grove is perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so whether your day downtown includes museum hopping, shopping, a movie matinee, or a spin on the historic carousel at Zeum, stop by before or after for a healthy meal.

There is no children’s menu here, but most of the items on the extensive menu will sate any kid’s appetite.  Our picks are the breakfast burrito or hearty oatmeal for breakfast and the veggie chili or finger-food friendly Berkeley Bowl salad with sweet 100 tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, garbanzo beans, and more piled onto spring mix.  If you need a caffeine kick to keep up with the kids they make coffee and espresso drinks from local microroaster Jeremiah’s Pick.

This is the grandest Grove location when it comes to space and décor. Think Aspen ski lodge meets SoMA warehouse—a spacious bi-level café that mixes industrial chic with warm rustic wooden furniture and a fireplace.  The best news?  They have changing tables in both the men’s and women’s restrooms that are brand spankin’ new!  Let dad handle diaper duty during dinner.

If you can’t get enough of the Grove, look out for a fourth location in Hayes Valley set to open this summer.
