Not to be left out of the mobile food scene, Bites Off Broadway is taking gourmet eats to the East Bay streets. This “mobile food and family fun” event happens Fridays nights in Oakland, getting the weekend off to a satisfying start with some savory munchies and an easygoing outdoor scene. Tiny foodies will enjoy their fancy grilled cheese sandwiches and watching the games on the lawn and the grown-ups will appreciate the local vibe, live music, and everything from tacos to samosas.
Go: Every Friday from May 11-October 12, 2012, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at 365 45th Street, Oakland, California in front of the Studio One Art Center.
Parking: Plenty of street parking.
Getting Around: The food trucks are assembled at 365 45thStreet, forming long lines behind them. Be prepared to navigate your stroller through the sea of foot traffic. The event has regularly attracted hundreds of hungry locals and their dogs, but despite the crowds, it still manages to feel neighborly.
Wait time: Wait time for food can be long, depending on the truck and the diners’ tastes that evening. Expect to stand in line from ten minutes to the better part of half an hour.
Eats: About four to seven food trucks, including those of Tina Tamale, Big Wheel Cookie Co., Nick’s Breakfast Truck, and much more. Check out Bites Off Broadway’s Facebook page mid-week when they will post what food trucks will be in attendance.
Seating: There’s a big lawn in front of Studio One, which is a perfect spot for stretching out a picnic blanket and devouring your delicious eats.
Games: The upside of the long lines, is that your family not only gets to be outside and enjoy the warm weather, but there are also lawn games, hula hooping and face-painting.
Cost of food: Pocket-friendly to moderate – Easy eats aren’t necessarily cheap!
