the scoop:

Roaring Camp Railroads is holding its 37th Annual Civil War Battles and Encampment throughout Memorial Day Weekend. Families can travel back in time to experience one of the longest running reenactments in the Western United States, which includes sounds of cavalry charges, musket fire and artillery shells. It also includes a train ride through the forest where you’ll get a first hand look at a soldier’s daily life, cooking over a campfire and cleaning his musket. Finally, fill up on a Chuck Wagon Barbecue at the camp. This year, there is a special evening encampment on May 27th. The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and includes an 8 p.m., 90-minute steam train through the Redwoods.
