Feeling in a brunch rut? Us too. Although a stack of thick fluffy pancakes or a plate of greasy breakfast food certainly hits the spot on occasion, there are weekend mornings when you want to eat and then not feel like you need to go home and take a nap to sleep off the food coma. For a fresh new take on brunch that is both kid-friendly and foodie-parent-approved, zip over to West Seattle for a visit to Fresh Bistro.
The menu at Fresh Bistro, at first glance, doesn’t scream kid-friendly, with only a few, seemingly simple choices. However, we assure you that your kids will love the food. The Hawaiian Breakfast should be a first choice for both kids and parents (ask them to leave the coconut sprinkles off for the kiddos!) – it’s a delicious twist on a classic French toast and the portion size is perfect for two children to share. It comes with Portuguese Sausage, which is a nice balance to the sweet Macadamia Maple syrup that you can dowse your French toast in. Also not to be missed is the freshly squeezed orange juice… and the Bloody Marys for mom and dad!
Other reasons why Fresh Bistro should be at the top of your brunch in Seattle to-do list? There is plenty of street parking around their location in West Seattle, so you won’t have to drive around searching for a spot (and even if you do – who doesn’t love strolling around West Seattle?). The wait, if there even is one, is quick at Fresh Bistro and you can feel free to linger after you dine or eat and run. Most importantly, in our opinion, all of the employees at Fresh Bistro are friendly and accommodating to families – they are happy to answer questions about the menu and what kids might like best, and everyone working there has a smile on their face, making this a place you want to take your kids on a weekend morning!
Notes for parents… Be sure to BYO crayons and coloring books or something else to entertain your kiddos while you wait for your brunch to arrive and throw an empty cup with a lid in your bag before leaving the house if you have a child who is still learning to navigate a big-kid cup! Fresh Bistro does have highchairs available.
