Thanks to our mild year-round weather, Seattle families can find a fun run or walk practically any weekend of the year. But if you’re looking to increase your family’s fun factor this year, consider participating in a costume race. From a leprechaun-inspired 5K to a Seahwaks-themed 12K, get your blood pumping and the fun flowing at these family races where the costumes are the real winners.
F5 St. Patrick’s Day Dash & Leprechaun Lap
May the luck o' the Irish be with you! The St. Patrick’s Day Dash (now in its 32nd year) is a favorite family event to usher in the arrival of spring and celebrate the Irish spirit, whether your name is Ryan O’Donnell or not. The St. Patty’s Day Dash is an official 5K distance with timed and untimed waves running through the streets of downtown Seattle. Before the race begins, wee lads and lassies under 10 can participate in the Leprechaun Lap, a 1K Kids Dash. Find your best and brightest green attire and go overboard: from tights to tutus, sequins to shamrocks, as long as it’s green, you’re ready to go!
Good to Know: Be sure to stick around after the race for Irish festivities at the Seattle Center and at the Seattle Children’s Museum as well as a costume contest to award the best and most outrageous costumes. The St. Patrick’s Day Dash benefits the Detlef Schrempf Foundation, a local non-profit that supports Northwest children’s charities who provide critical support and services to youth in the community.
