Thanks to our mild year-round weather, Seattle families can find a fun run or walk practically any weekend of the year. But if you’re looking to increase your family’s fun factor this year, consider participating in a costume race. From a leprechaun-inspired 5K to a Seahwaks-themed 12K, get your blood pumping and the fun flowing at these family races where the costumes are the real winners.
Run Scared 5K
Get ready for some chills and thrills at the Run Scared 5K at Seattle’s Seward Park. This year’s event falls the day before Halloween and promises to bring some spooktacular fun, as well as some serious amounts of candy. Indulge in a post-run candy corn tasting bar, fall treats and finish line party with games and crafts after participating in the 5K run or 4K walk along the shores of Lake Washington. Runners, walkers, children, strollers and dogs on short leashes are welcome.
Good to Know: Ghosts and goblins under 12 can run the free Kids Dash and receive a finisher's ribbon and candy (it’s Halloween, after all!). But the real highlight of the morning’s festivities is the costume contest. To better plan your boo-tiful costume and be in the running for the big prize, keep in mind the judging categories: best overall, scariest, funniest, most original, best team costumer, best kid’s costume, and best doggie costume. Yes, there is even a contest for Fido. Proceeds from the Run Scared 5K benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
