Spring may be on it’s way, but the skies ares still that familiar grey here in Seattle. Even with unpredictable downpours and chilly evenings, we won’t let that stop us from enjoying a night outside over a glass of wine. Luckily, Seattle has more than a few options to get a taste of the outdoors that are free from the winter chill. Our friends at Seattle Magazine have rounded up their picks for place to dine outside while still staying warm and dry. Allison Austin Scheff writes:
Who can resist an elegant evening of fine dining under the stars? For just such an occasion, reserve a table in the greenhouse overlooking the canal at the Book Bindery, on the Queen Anne side of the Ship Canal (198 Nickerson St.; 206.283.2665). With just eight tables, the glassed-in room glows with candlelight, and tastefully lush plantings are arranged just so. It’s nice to arrive at dusk, to watch the sky darken to charcoal. To Eat: All the luxury ingredients are accounted for: foie gras, lobster risotto with black truffles, and the steak, referred to as the “Flavor Curve,” likely the best piece of meat you’ll eat all year.
We’ve sipped our fair share of Cadillac margaritas at Fremont’s El Camino (607 N 35th St.; 206.632.7303) in summer on its small but endlessly in-demand back deck, with its two sets of windows that open and shut like garage doors. Nowadays, though, El Camino’s deck is fully enclosed, cozy and comfortable, thanks to a gas fireplace. Chinese lanterns, strings of white lights and candles glowing on tabletops add allure. Who says nachos can’t be sexy? To Eat: Freshly mashed guacamole with plantain chips, the pulled-chicken chilaquiles with black beans and queso fresco, and the tortilla soup with its layers of chiles and hit of lime—and one (or three?) of those Cadillac margaritas.
