With longer days and more flexible schedules, summer’s a great time to explore new areas outside of Seattle.  Just a short drive (30 minutes or so) North of Seattle is Everett; home to a fantastic Children’s Museum and a huge park to explore. So, pack up a picnic and the swimsuits and hit the road for our latest adventure.

First stop is Downtown Everett’s incredibly fun Imagine Children’s Museum. The exhibits here allow children’s imaginations to run wild. Kids can be just about anyone they want from a pilot to a doctor to a construction worker. Don’t forget to check out the rooftop adventure too! Tip: Every third Friday families can attend the museum for free from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

When you’re ready to get outdoors after your morning at Imagine, drive just a few short miles to Forest Park for a picnic lunch and playtime.  Set up camp in the grassy area near the fantastic water-spray playground where kids can splash the day away (it also has an area perfect for toddlers).  Explore the park further to find a traditional playground and a free animal farm featuring goats, calves, rabbits and other farm animals.

If you’ve managed to make it a full day, stick around and skip traffic! Feed the kiddos before you head home with an early dinner at Gordito’s (just a few minutes from the park). This is the sister restaurant to the Seattle/Greenwood location. The yummy Mexican restaurant with a “healthy flair,” offers a children’s menu and, more importantly, a children’s play area with toys and books.
