On this New Year’s Day, we trust everyone is ready to tackle the Oh-Nine. But if all the wintry weather has got you a feelin’ a little doughy (itÕs amazing how, as the snow came down, so went the holiday cookies!), we know just where to go to get refreshed: Kirkland! Today at 1 p.m., you can take part in the Kirkland Polar Plunge, which is a dip into the chilly waters of Lake Washington, followed by hot drinks and a bonfire. Make a day of it by browsing children’s specialty shops such as the newly opened Kate Quinn Organics (431 6th Street) or Bella Bambini (1 Lake Street). Have a snack of yummy guac and chips at the family-friendly Cactus (121 Park Lane) or grab a cozy table at Purple Cafe and Wine Bar where the kids menu is stellar (and so is the wine list). If you wanna go more low-key, grab burgers and shakes at Kidd Valley (5910 Lake Washington Blvd. NE), then walk directly across the street for a picnic at the beautiful lakefront park and playground.
