Pinterest revolutionized crafty pursuits for the masses. But these moms put the economics in Home Economics, by turning their talents into cottage industries that produce inspired products for moms and kids we adore. You know what else we love? When you shop with these moms you get the “think global, act local” seal of approval this holiday season (bye bye, big box stores!). So flip through to meet some of Seattle’s craftiest moms and get ready to shop, shop, shop!

Kimberly Wooten

Art is second nature to crochet queen Kimberly Wooten, who learned the craft from her grandmother as a young girl. She had no idea it would turn into an in-home business years later. After spending years as a Boeing engineer, a simple request from her son (“Mom, could you make me some Captain America gloves?”) and a baby blanket made for a friend, started her down a different path. Now, she splits her time between working as the Artistic Director for the Ensemble Ballet Theater (a local youth ballet company) and making custom gloves, toys and blankets on the side. Her fingerless gloves come with cute customizable embellishments (think skulls, lighting bolts and the like) so that each one is different. And she uses amigurumi (a Japanese crochet style) patterns to make all of her super squeezable toys. Looks like crocheting isn’t just for grandmas anymore!
