Ready for your closeup? Melissa Timme is a photographer extraordinaire with a passion for capturing the complex beauty and personality of each individual. In a past life (that is, before kids), Melissa was a headshot photographer in Los Angeles. Now, she’s thrilled to be photographing Seattle families and presenting them with a beautiful memory to hold on to. Timme Photo was your Totally Awesome pick for best family photographer in the Seattle area. Here’s what Melissa said about her new title, what sets her apart, and more:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome.” What do think your customers value most about your business?
Melissa Timme: I think when a person is doing what they love, it’s evident and others want to be involved in it. Yes, I take fabulous pictures—but so do a thousand other photographers. However, I truly do love doing it, and I believe it’s because of that that I am able to capture a bit of what is lovely about whomever I am photographing. So to answer the question, my passion and my laid back professionalism is what my customers find most awesome about me.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
MT: I guess what inspired me was wanting to do what I love—photographing people—while still having the flexibility to be there for my children.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
MT: It helps if sleep isn’t important! (Just kidding…sort of.) Really, the best thing I can say is: Schedule, schedule, schedule. Make sure your partner is on board to help. Don’t expect to be able to work when the kids are there. Work around their schedules and be with them 100% .
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
MT: As a business owner, winning this Totally Awesome award is pretty cool! As a mom, it’s hard to pick a “proudest” moment because my kids are totally awesome and amaze me every day! Perhaps you should be giving awards for totally awesome kids, because I think mine might win.
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
MT: Red Tricycles readers who mention “Red Tricycle” when booking a session will receive free prints of their choosing: three 8X10, four 5X7 and four 4X6.
