Kick Out the Summertime Jams
Need something to make those summer road trips go a little faster? When packing up the car games and emergency snacks, don’t forget to pack the tunes! With a slew of new Seattle-based kiddie music (from Recess Monkey, The Not-Its! and OyBaby) cranking, the littles will forget all about asking “are we there yet?” Instead it’ll be “we’re already there?” And, that’s always a good thing!
Recess Monkey – The Final Funktier, releases June 15
Some teachers take the summer off…not this rockin’ trio of teachers! They spend their summers touring much to the delight of their pint-sized fans. Thankfully there’s nothing “final” about the title of their 5th CD, The Final Funktier; rather, is a compilation of space & science-themed songs filled with high energy funk and new wave sounds. And, because these guys are educators, the kiddos just might learn a few things about constellations, jet packs and black holes while rocking out in their moon boots. Blast off!
The Not-Its! Time Out to Rock, releases July 20
In the past year, The Not-Its have been not-so-quietly taking the Seattle kiddie music scene by storm. They totally ramp up the coolness factor when it comes to cranking tunes about play dates and sharing. Fans have anxiously been awaiting their second CD which is set for release on July 20 and includes imaginative songs like “Cheetah The Buffalo”. Says lead singer Sarah Shannon, “Time Out To Rock is a perfect example of the kind of music that we all used to perform in our indie rock pasts, only with different lyrics now.” With packed shows all over Seattle, The Not-Its are soooo “it”!
P.S.: Take some Time Out to Rock with The Not-Its for their official CD release party at the July 30th concert at Seattle’s Magnuson Park Amphitheatre at 6:30pm…and it’s FREE!
When the creators of locally-based OyBaby realized the fans of their popular OyBaby Series of DVD’s & CD’s were growing up and going off to summer camp, they decided to get the team back together to create a compilation of Jewish Camp Songs. The team includes Northwest musicians Justin Jude and the Schneiderman Sisters (who were also featured on That Baby DVD & CD). Families can enjoy these tunes around their own summer campfires and the music makes the perfect gift for new campers. Says OyBaby founder Rob Wolf, “Though it has its roots in Jewish camp, the CD includes some English favorites that all campers will enjoy-regardless of religion. We’re talking camp classics like ‘Leaving on A Jet Plane’ and ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’”. You can even buy these tracks individually on iTunes here. Pass the s’mores!
