So far this summer you’ve splashed in the spray parks, mulled over museums and frolicked at farms, and now the kids need hands-on down time. How about an art project? We’ve rounded up our area’s best places to paint your own pottery (with some glass fusing and crafting thrown in for good measure). Click through the gallery to find out where to get your art on this summer.

Emerald City Fired Arts

How it works: Owner Maidrine Chen provides a fun, easy-going atmosphere at her Mount Baker studio (in the former Chubby and Tubby space for you southeastern Seattleites) and you are welcome to drop in anytime during their business hours to create your masterpiece. Prices run from $5-$55 with an average cost of $18, and all prices of her bisque pottery include glazing and firing. If you’d rather try your hand at glass fusing or mosaic, just stop by and Maidrine will help you create your masterpiece. Your piece will be all ready and waiting for you in 7-10 days.

Camps and classes: Boy, do they have summer camps! Weekly camps run through August 29, 2014 where your kiddos ages 6 and up can spend the day creating all things clay, bisque and more. Classes run daily from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., and can be extended to 6 p.m. for an additional $30/day. Just pack a lunch and your kiddo’s creativity and let Maidrine do the rest! Price: $180/week.

Time to celebrate: For kiddos 17 and under, book a party at Emerald City Fired Arts, and your birthday kiddo can invite his friends for two hours of art-tastic entertainment in his chosen medium—pottery painting, clay hand building, glass fusion or mosaics. You bring decorations, food and drinks, and Maidrine provides the tools, inspiration and instruction for a fun arty party. She also gives the birthday kid a cool birthday plate for his friends to decorate.

Important party details: There is a minimum order of $140 or $14/person; $50 deposit required.

Good to know: Emerald City Fired Arts also offers Kids’ Classes, Weekend Clay Workshops on Saturdays for kids 5 and older, and Mom and Me Pottery on Tuesdays for kids birth to 8. Just give the studio a call or check the website for more info!

For parents of kiddos 7 and up (or even mature 6 year olds), feel free to drop your Littles off for a couple hours while you run to grab a cuppa joe at Starbucks or take a walk at nearby Seward Park—just leave Maidrine your number.
