Get inspired by one of Seattle’s most iconic and whimsical sculptures, Alexander Calder’s The Eagle. Calder loved exploring ideas of movement, color and scale and was known for both his mobiles, which move in the air and his stabiles, which sit on the ground.
SAM Creates: Stay and Go with artist Wyly Astley
Even though The Eagle doesn’t fly, it does make you think about movement. Work with artist Wyly Astley to create your own Calder bird. Your artwork can be realistic or abstract and it can stay on the ground or go in the air. Take your bird outside and see what happens when a flock comes together around Calder’s The Eagle.
Note: Bring your own cardboard box to create a vehicle from recycled materials for a kids’ indoor “drive-in” movie. The featured film, Planes: Fire & Rescue begins at noon.
