The Growing Tree and Treehouse Playcare & Preschool just won a Totally Awesome Award for the “Easiest Drop-Off Play Spots” in Seattle. We recently spoke to them about their experience as a business owner, the best advice they’ve ever received and more. Hear what they have to say below!
Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Easiest Drop-Off Play Spots” in Seattle – what do your customers value most about your business?
The Growing Tree: The Growing Tree is a unique childcare business that strives to create a community between our families. Every child is valued, loved, and treated with respect, as instilling compassion is at the root of our play-based philosophy.
RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
GT: We offer a variety of daycare and preschool options and schedules to fit every family’s needs, from full-time, part-time, and drop-in care! We recently opened a second location. Both locations are homey, cheerful, and well thought out to best benefit the learning and socialization of every child.
RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
GT: Alli and I met at a home daycare on Mercer Island when we were just 1 and 2 years old, became best friends immediately, and always dreamt of opening our very own daycare! Working with children has always been our true passion, no doubt about it! After studying early childhood education and development in college, we opened The Growing Tree in 2013, and just recently, The Treehouse is 2016! We are young, up to date with new education philosophies, energetic, and ABSOLUTLY LOVE what we do!
RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
GT: We are Starbucks and Perrier ladies, each and every day of the week! Alli loves her mochas and I prefer tea. Without our morning caffeine, or a consistent flow of sparkling water, our days just don’t go as smoothly!
RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
GT: Of course we love getting flowers, gift cards, and treats, but when it really comes down to what has touched our hearts, we’d have to say being considered a part of their family takes the cake! Invites to birthday parties, summer BBQ’s , soccer games, or dance recitals, are so meaningful to us! When children go to kindergarten, or families’ move across country, it is such a painful goodbye, but they always stay in touch! This past month, Alli was asked to be the Godmother to one of our daycare kiddos, that is pretty AWESOME!
RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
GT: We have eyes in the back of our heads! Working with kids, you always have to know what is going on, who is doing what, and where everyone is! It’s an acquired skill.
RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
GT: The best advice we have received is to do what you love! Follow your dreams and passions, and don’t give up when something stands in your way. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life!
