Top Ten Toys just won a Totally Awesome Award for Totally Terrific Toy & Book Store in Seattle. We recently spoke to them about their experience as a business owner, the best advice they’ve ever received and more. Hear what they have to say below!
Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Totally Terrific Toy & Book Store” – what do your customers value most about your business?
Top Ten Toys: Our customers value our outstanding customer service, our usually large variety of educational toys and our complementary self-wrap station.
RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
TTT: What we don’t buy is as important as what we do buy.
RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
TTT: The current owner’s sister wanted a place where her son could learn and play in a comfortable, healthy toy environment.
RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
TTT: As true Seattleites, coffee is the way to go for our team!
RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
TTT: Some children made a music video about how much they liked the store.
RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
TTT: My biggest pet peeve is the toy companies that over package their products because it is unnecessary most of the time and not good for the environment.
RT: How do you keep your stress levels down?
TTT: Staying playful!
RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
TTT: Appreciating that everyone on the staff has something to offer.
RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
TTT: Don’t buy toys through picture catalogs for the customers. You have to feel things and shake the boxes in order to know if you like it.
RT: How about the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
TTT: “Let your kids play violent video games all they won’t, it will make them tech savvy…” In my experience, it has only made my boys more aggressive and riled up…
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
TTT: No. We’ll just try to continue to sell great toys.
