Can you believe that Sesame Street turns 50 this year? The iconic children’s show is celebrating a huge milestone and getting a bit of a makeover in the process.

If you’ve ever tuned into the classic, you’ll probably notice that the lovable cast of characters’ style hasn’t changed all that much over the last half a century. So, in honor of the huge b-day, Sesame Street partnered with InStyle magazine—and some notable fashion designers—to give the gang an updated look. And all we can say is, WOW!

Does Big Bird’s caftan look familiar? The Anna Sui garment is similar to one the designer featured in her own 2018 Spring show and tells InStyle that “the look was breezy, optimistic, romantic, nonconformist,” just like your fave yellow bird.

Marc Jacobs’ creation for Abby Cadabby is actually a custom dress from his Spring 2019 runway. The designer used layers of filmy fabric and dramatic whorls of ruffles along the neckline to capture the character’s personality.

Elmo’s look is courtesy of Opening Ceremony and he’s dressed comfortably in one of their classic track pantsuits. To see the rest of the gang dressed to the nines in creations by Rose Assoulin and Isaac Mizrahi, check out InStyle’s entire makeover article!

Despite the fact that the characters will return to their classic clothing once back on the show, reactions from Sesame Street lovers has been largely receptive to the makeover. Fans are loving the fresh looks and don’t mind sharing on Twitter.
