Finding different ways to entertain your little ones outside of the house can be difficult and tedious at times. After you’ve scoped out our parks and playgrounds round up and are maybe looking for some indoor fun for your little ones, consider an old fashioned puppet show with Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater.

What: The Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater is part of the Balboa Park Puppet Guild and offers year round performances Wednesdays through Sundays, as well as workshops, apprentice opportunities, and children’s programs through the guild. The Puppet Theater says that shows are great for kids from preschool to grade school, but we recommend the shows for ages 2-5. Definitely check out their performance schedule before you purchase tickets as some shows are definitely more entertaining than others, especially for the older crowd.

The Space: If you’re looking for an indoor, afternoon event after a morning of running around, this is definitely the place to go. The venue is small enough so that all kiddos can see the action, and they offer booster seats in the back to guarantee a good show for little ones.

Extras: Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater also hosts birthday parties where you can schedule puppet workshops (for older kiddos), or simply take a group of kids and parents to see a show where the birthday boy or girl will receive a crown, a birthday card, and a free pass for another performance.

If you and your little ones plan on being return customers, definitely check out Tico’s Puppet Club! For $12 your kiddo will receive a punch of goodies and be able to participate in special events at every visit to the theater for 12 visits. Contact the theater for more details on exactly what each special event entails before your visit.

Cost: $3 for children up to age 12, $5 for adults, and $4 for seniors age 65+
