Feel like embarking on a new adventure with your pint-sized pal while doing good around town? San Diego has a bunch of cool and unique volunteer opportunities that will inspire and delight. We’re talking about a lesson on river bugs, protecting wild birds, planting a sustainable garden, walking for cancer, or even helping out around a horse ranch! Click through the slideshow for five volunteer opportunities the whole family will enjoy.

Challenge Ranch, Inc.

This beautiful 10-acre ranch is home to 25 horses, and a whole lot of memories made by both program participants and volunteers. Challenge Ranch, Inc. works with underprivileged kids in the Greater San Diego area. They are committed to changing lives through horse therapy. Volunteers are welcome on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Your little rancher (ages 6 and up) may be asked to water, weed, paint, or clean up the barn. When you're done volunteering, feel free to take a dip in the pool. Bring a swimsuit, pack a snack or lunch. Don’t forget those work gloves! Space for the little ones is limited, so contact the ranch for details.
