The tragic events of the Sandy Hook Elementary School are still fresh in the minds of so many parents. Here is San Diego, parents, kids and community members have an opportunity to make a local impact on behalf of the Sandy Hook Elementary School family.

The Yellow Book Road Bookstore is hosting a special book drive and fundraising event on Febuary 2 to honor the memory of the precious lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Ten best-selling kid’s book authors and illustrators will be at the bookstore signing copies of their books, including Robin Preiss Glasser (Fancy Nancy series), David Shannon (No, David!), and Salina Yoon (Penguin and Pinecone).

At the request of the Sandy Hook Elementary School leadership that donations be made to a local organization, all books and proceeds from the sales will be donated to The San Diego Center for Children, a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic treatment and special education services to kids and teens with mental health challenges. The goal of the event is to donate 450 books, which represents every student at Sandy Hook.

This event is a great way to reinforce to kids the importance of giving back to the community. There will also be an opportunity drawing (tickets available at the event)  for special limited edition artwork, signed books, posters, gift baskets, and many more items that have been donated by authors and publishers.  The event is free and open to the public.
