The first time you held hands while roller skating, the song was probably something by Air Supply or Olivia Newton John. These days, it might be Ariana Grande and Iggy Izalea. Regardless of whatever generation gap may be present, your kids will definitely want in on some skating fun. San Diego has a variety of kid-friendly skating rinks for both the roller and ice aficionados. Flip through the slideshow to see what’s in store for your little skaters.

San Diego Ice Arena

Kid-friendly doesn't begin to describe this wonderland for your skater-in-training. With public skating, figure skating, a well respected hockey program, and skating school, there is something for everyone at this Mira Mesa facility. Groupons and LivingSocial vouchers abound, so keep an eye out for those to save money on admission. Be forewarned, though – the rink often gets crowded during public skate times on the weekends. So be prepared to rub elbows (sometimes literally) with other like-minded kiddos. San Diego Ice Arena has a great party atmosphere and lively DJ. Regular admission costs $12/person, while those 12 and under pay $10. Groups who RSVP get a discount at $8/person, so it pays off to get friends in on the fun (conga lines are optional!).
