Charity and do-gooding can be a difficult concept for kids to grasp––but local art haven Mint Studio’s Crafting with Purpose series puts the power to change the world in the palms of kids’ hands––literally. This fall and holiday season, kids can learn new crafts and their handmade goods will be donated to a local charity. Read on to learn more about this transformative artistic experience that enables participants to make an immediate difference in the community by using their creativity to promote goodwill.
This series is meant for kids as young as kindergarteners to adults and is a unique opportunity to do something with your child or have them experience it on their own. Some of the classes will have age requirements for the craft involved, so be sure to check the full calendar for details. Girl Scouts may earn a badge and all groups are welcome to participate.

Why: The Inspiration Behind Crafting with Purpose
We spoke with Mint Studio founder Jayme Sanders about her inspiration and goals for starting the Crafting with Purpose series. She shared, “The motivation behind the “Crafting with Purpose” series is my belief in building confidence and character in kids and the belief that the creative process is a unique way to connect our community. I have 3 young kids and as a mother, I am looking for opportunities for them to volunteer and gain perspective in a safe way while doing something that instills values. This series will develop their skills and connect creativity and community by opening their hearts as they learn the true gift is in the giving. We are in an “experience economy” and I feel this is the first time I have seen people spend more money on experiences than on things. My hope for this series is to develop tomorrow’s leaders and teach kids skills that are not typically being taught in school. They will leave the classes with the confidence that comes from learning they can make something pretty amazing and feel good about donating their time and talent to help someone who needs it.”
