Got crayon art on your walls? That might be a subtle sign that your little ones need an outlet for their creative juices (welcome to toddlerhood). Don’t feel guilty if the last thing you want to do is clean up a mess of finger-painting after you’ve been a sleep-deprived zombie taking care of the little ones. Your little artists just need to channel that creativity into something productive and what better place than at the OC Museum of Art free Family Sundays (yes, OC has an art museum that is kid-friendly!) The kids can color all they want, it’s free, and you don’t have to deal with the clean-up. Sounds like a win-win Sunday scenario for the family (all that is left is to ditch the apron and check out healthy dinner take-out)!

Mark your calendars for every second Sunday of the month because that is when families get to visit the Orange County Museum of Art for free. Each month has a different theme so you will always find something new to explore. Hands-on art projects including painting, drawing, coloring, and crafts tailored to that month’s theme.  The theme is usually related to the exhibition that is currently on view so that the little ones can have a complete experience that connects their hands-on projects to the art they see at the museum.

The month of April is featuring a Topsy Turvy that explores different perspectives of traditional led by artist Richard Jackson. Be sure to look for Richard Jackson’s Big Bad Dog, a huge black dog resembling Clifford, hovering over the side of the building…the kids will be absolutely amazed.

You’ll also get a taste of cool dance performances from the local Momentum Dance Troupe, and musical performances by the local Leaping Lizards. Don’t worry about lunch because the on-site taco food truck has got your family covered. The menu includes your classic beef, pork, or chicken tacos, rice, and beans. If your kids aren’t into that, you can always pack them a lunch too.

After a few of these Sundays, you’ll be ready to hit the bigger museums in the big cities!
