Gather round Einsteins, young and young at heart! You’re going to have a real blast at the Fleet Science Center’s new MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition. The hit television show MythBusters introduces the scientific method in an exciting and invigorating fashion in this all-hands-on exhibit––where kids become mythbusters themselves as they take on popular experiments from the show! Read on for all the data you need before your visit!

Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed?
Not already a MythBusters fan? No problem! As you enter the exhibit, you’ll be immersed in the Blueprint Room, a larger-than-life introduction to MythBusters. Based on the real-life set, you’re immediately surrounded by gadgets, props and blueprints used by the hosts to explore myths on the show. From the intro video, learn how the hosts use real science to test their hypotheses and decide if each is busted, plausible, or confirmed to be true.

After watching the video, step into the interactive part of the exhibit and try this on for size: How long does it take you to change like a superhero in a telephone box? Have a blast dressing in capes, masks and more together.

Can You Outsmart the Big Bad Wolf?
Take the challenge by building a structure that can withstand a gust of wind. Like the Three Little Pigs, you have building materials made from three different weights: light, medium and heavy. Build, rebuild and retest until you get it just right. Jump for joy when your structure beats the big bad wolf.

Good to Know: Even littlest ones can get in on the fun with step stools that help them reach. The whole exhibit is presented with English and Spanish directives and explanations.

Look, Mom! It’s Raining Inside the Museum!
Nothing excites Southern California kids quite like a rainy day. Give your little weather sleuths the ultimate thrill by testing the rain tunnel. Do you get wetter by walking or running through the rain? Try it for yourself in a tunnel that really drips “rain.” Check out your results under the ultraviolet lights that show the drops on your hair, clothing and skin.

SO Much Science in Progress. So Many Myths to Test!
Test your curiosity at these fun experiments:

  • Does toast always land butter side up? Are your results always the same even using a  variety of techniques?
  • Can you drive blindly with a guide to act as your eyes?
  • How long can you hang on a cliff? How about if you have a more narrow ledge?
  • Can you really pull a tablecloth off of a fully set table without the dishes falling to the floor?

Gear Up for an Explosive Show
About twice per hour each day, a live demonstration takes place on stage— a must-see for MythBusters fans. With help from Fleet scientists, while wearing plenty of protective gear, teen and adult audience volunteers test how fast they can dodge a paintball. Audience members hypothesize, then the experiment plays out on stage. This is a fun and lively interactive show!

Insider’s Tip: Know a MythBusters fan who really wants to be part of the demo? Arrive 10-15 minutes early to the stage to volunteer. Volunteers need to meet height requirements and sign a waiver.

Before You Leave…
Submit your own myths and you could see them being tested on future episodes of MythBusters!

With so much hands-on science in play, don’t forget to check out all the cool, extraordinary objects used in the show that are on display.

Cost: Adults/$19.95; Kids/$16.95. MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibit costs an additional $5 on top of the museum entry fee. Entrance fees include an IMAX film of your choice.
