Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Most Phenomenal Party Supply Store” – what do your customers value most about your business?
Pretend, Inc.: Our customers love that we do not deliver a service, we create an experience. We use balloon twisting and decor, face painting, glitter tattoos, magic, and caricatures to awaken the magic of childhood in all of us. Being a kid was cool. The coolness doesn’t have to end.

RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
PI: We believe that eating cereal while watching Saturday morning cartoons in pajamas nurtures inner peace. We advocate for the liberal use of glitter whenever possible. We color outside the lines.

RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
PI: Tyler always wanted to join the circus but found that tights and grease paint irritated his sensitive skin. He began balloon twisting 14 years ago, whereupon he quickly excelled by becoming a latex inflation and manipulation engineer. Jennifer left the high stress psychology field in order to paint people into dragons, princesses, and sparkly butterflies due to her strong belief in the antidepressant properties of glitter and superhero capes. Aaron is a big kid who has found a way to play all day.

RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
PI: Chocolate milk but we always brush our teeth.

RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
PI: When someone looks amazed at the creation of balloon art or at their own face in the mirror after they get face painting, we feel awesome. We want everyone to be amazed and feel beautiful.

RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
PI: We often wish we had more time to donate our services. Happiness has a huge ripple effect.

RT: How do you keep your stress levels down?
PI: We run relay races with lollipops in our mouths. We find that the adrenaline takes the edge off.

RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
PI: We love and believe in what we do. That’s the best superpower in any situation.

RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
PI: The best advice that we received as parents is to not let our child grow up too fast. He has his whole life to be a grownup so help him hold on to the magic of childhood for as long as possible.

RT: How about the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
PI: Less is more.

RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
PI: Mention Red Tricycle and receive 10% off. Ask about our discount for churches, schools, military, and first responders. A discount is also given for booking multiple services.
