TwainFest is a free family festival, perfect for all ages, celebrating the literature and culture of 19th Century America. Hear terrific music, listen to stories of real Californians as well as pieces by Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson, Emily Dickinson, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and so many others. Fairy Tales in the Park
The 7th Annual Fairy Tales in the Park is a whimsical, interactive dance event which engages both young audiences and families, introducing them to the art of ballet through familiar stories they know and love. The show features excerpts from classic fairytales narrated by a professional storyteller and interpreted through dance. This year’s stories include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Sleeping Beauty, The Firebird and Coppélia. Sat. and Sun., 1 and 4 p.m., Casa del Prado, $12/person. All ages. Event details.

Tinkers’ Club
The Tinkerers’ Club workshops give tinkerers of all ages even more opportunities to create in the Tinkering Studio. Today’s activities include Soldering Skills Lab and Wind Energy. Moonlight Stage Products: “Shrek: The Musical”
“Shrek: The Musical” is the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Outdoor Movie at Grossmont Center: Ice Age
